Historical Book Reconstruction
Multi-year bookkeeping rebuilt from source records.
When years of books are missing, or the existing file cannot be trusted, Ashmore reconstructs the accounting from bank, credit-card, payroll, loan, merchant, and prior tax records. Long historical periods, including 7 to 8 years, are workable when the source records support it.
When reconstruction is the right call
Repairing the old file is not always the answer.
Books never existed
The business ran on a bank balance and a tax return. Now a lender, buyer, or the IRS needs real financial statements for prior years.
The file cannot be trusted
Prior bookkeeping mixed personal and business activity, skipped reconciliations, or left balances nobody can explain.
Multiple years of unfiled returns
Financials are needed year by year so delinquent business and individual returns can be prepared and filed.
Entity or ownership changes
Historical activity has to be separated correctly across entities, owners, and periods.
Our approach
Rebuild from evidence, not from memory.
STEP 1
Inventory the records
We list what exists for each year: bank and card statements, payroll filings, loan statements, merchant reports, 1099s, prior returns, and any partial books.
STEP 2
Rebuild period by period
Each year is posted, reconciled, and reviewed before moving to the next, so balances roll forward correctly.
STEP 3
Tie out and document
Loans, payroll, equity, and opening balances are tied to source documents, with a written record of assumptions and material judgments.
What you receive
Financials that can support a return, a lender, or a buyer.
Reconstruction ends with year-by-year Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet statements, reconciled accounts, and documentation your CPA or Ashmore can use to prepare or amend returns.
- Year-by-year financial statements
- Every bank and card account reconciled
- Loan, payroll, and equity balances tied to records
- Documented assumptions where records are incomplete
- Tax preparation available from the same team
Pricing and timeline
Scoped after the records are reviewed.
Reconstruction is quoted as a fixed project where the scope can be defined, after the Books X-Ray and a records inventory. Where records are incomplete, we tell you what can be reconstructed reliably and what cannot, before you commit.
Years of missing books? Start with what you have.
Tell us the years involved, the entity type, and which records exist. We will tell you what a reconstruction would involve.
